Alger County’s Legal Paper of Record

As the official newspaper of record for Munising and Alger County, The Munising Beacon is the proper publication for legal notices, bid postings, and public announcements. If your notices have been running in other outlets — such as the shoppers — please update your placements to run in The Munising Beacon starting July 31 to ensure compliance with public posting requirements.

As we get up to speed and continue serving our readers and local communities, we're also working to ensure that legal and public notices are published accurately and in compliance with state law.

As the official paper of record for Alger County, our newspaper meets the publication requirements outlined under MCL 691.1051 to 691.1054, which govern the publication of legal notices in Michigan. These laws specify that legal notices must be published in a newspaper that is circulated regularly, has a substantial paid subscriber base and has been established for at least one year in the community — standards the Munising Beacon continues to meet.

We recognize that the legal notice process hasn’t always been consistent across the region, and we’re happy to help make future submissions as smooth and straightforward as possible. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions about deadlines, formatting or rates.
