Police were called to the Rock River Township Hall on Tuesday, Aug. 29, regarding a resident of the township refusing to leave the property. At the time of the incident, the Rock River Township Clerk Maria Strand was having a private meeting with an accountant contracted by the township for auditing purposes, required by state law. Strand confirmed that the township hall was being used as an office for the accountant to review financial files, including personnel files that would have private information regarding payroll.

The program – a joint effort of the Michigan departments of Natural Resources; Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy; and Agriculture and Rural Development – is part of a statewide initiative launched in 2014 to help prevent, detect and control invasive species in Michigan.

Annual Mackinac Bridge Walk draws massive crowds
Over 35,000 people crossed the Mackinac Bridge on foot, September 4, for the annual Labor Day Bridge Walk. The Mackinac Bridge Walk is an annual event that celebrates Labor Day. The walk is held on the Mackinac Bridge, the third-longest suspension span in the United States, which spans the Straits of Mackinac connecting the Upper and Lower Peninsulas of Michigan. The event has been held for over 60 years, and attracts thousands of people from all over the world.
