The Frayed Rope: A Lesson in Maintenance, Love, and Faith

There is a story about a monastery in Europe perched high on a cliff several hundred feet in the air. The only way to reach the monastery was to be suspended in a basket which was pulled to the top by several monks who pulled and tugged with all their strength. Obviously the ride up the steep cliff in that basket was terrifying. One tourist got exceedingly nervous about half-way up as he noticed that the rope by which he was suspended was old and frayed. With a trembling voice he asked the monk who was riding with him in the basket how often they changed the rope. The monk thought for a moment and answered brusquely, “Whenever it breaks.”

National Quilting Day Free Workshop The Munising Bay Quilt Guild is celebrating National Quilting Day Saturday March 16 with a beginner’s workshop on paper piecing. The free workshop will be held from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Munising Township hall in Wetmore. Participants will learn basic paper piecing techniques to create a bunny themed mug rug. A potluck lunch is planned. Bring a sewing machine, basic sewing supplies, and a dish to share. Other materials will be furnished. Class space is limited, so please contact Lynn DeRoche, 906-4395198 or lderoche@tds.net to register. A limited number of sewing machines can also be made available on a case by case basis if needed.

Community members were welcomed by Abby Wallace, of Michigan Environmental Council, to the presentation Green Bank Energy Financing on Tuesday, 2/27 at the Gallery Coffee Co. This community education seminar was cohosted by the Michigan Environmental Council and Alger County Renewable Energy Solutions (ACRES). Tuesday’s event was held to provide information and options on financing renewable energy projects for the home and business.
