Mustangs fall one yard short in Rudyard

The Munising football team came just one yard away from pulling off a big-time road win last Friday in Rudyard. Instead, the Mustangs dropped a heartbreaker on the Bulldogs’ home field, as they had a player tackled on the 1-yard line as time expired, resulting in a 29-28 defeat in the Great Lakes Eight Conference East Division.

Injury bug costs Mustang runners a shot at conference title

Under a sun-drenched sky at the Dale Fountain cross country course in Banat, the Munising Mustang cross country teams competed at the Skyline Conference championships on Thursday, Oct. 10. Unfortunately for the Mustangs, the injury bug jumped up and bit both the boys and girls teams. The result was that injuries cost both teams the chance to win conference titles.

Mustangs Break Out at Esky Meet

Last Thursday at Escanaba Country Club the Mustang boys’ cross country team had their best race of the season at the Eskymos Cross Country Invitational. All five of their runners posted either personal best or season best times at the event. The dynamic duo of Danny Goss and Trevor Nolan blistered the 5k course with times of 16 minutes 19.8 seconds and 16 minutes 58.2 seconds respectively. Their third and eighth place finishes helped to propel the team to a second place team finish out of ten scoring teams with 81 points. Marquette won the meet with 18 points. Rounding out the Mustang finishers were Blake Lakosky (18th, 18:55.3), Nolan Dolaskie (35th, 19:50.0), and Nate Petersen (48th, 21:52.1). The last three were all season best times for those runners. Kate Mattson was the only lady Mustang in the girl’s race. She placed 20th with a time of 23:41.3.
