FinnU women lose home openers

The Upper Peninsula’s only varsity women’s collegiate hockey team, Finlandia University, lost two games over the weekend 6-0, 8-0 to Concordia-Moorhead (30), Friday and Saturday Nov. 4-5 at the Houghton County Arena.

Norse men’s basketball starts strong

The Bay College Men’s Basketball Team (2-0) started their season off strong this past weekend beating Harper College (1-3) by a score of 97-66 and Gogebic Community College (1-1) by a final of 8753. The games were part of the first of three classic tournaments the Norse are hosting this season.

Cougars advance to finals over Munising

The Superior Central Cougars are moving on after a dramatic 3-1 victory over rival Munising in the District 101 volleyball semifinals on Wednesday, November 2. Numerous volleys lasted over a minute in each set before the Cougars took the victory.

Rivalry renewed for playoffs

The Munising Mustangs (9-0) will be hosting their first playoff game against the Norway Knights (6-3) at Mustang Stadium on Friday, October 28. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.. Broadcasts will be provided by 97.7 WQXO for the Munising coverage while a digital audio stream through The Newberry News/EUP Sports Network will give the Newberry side. All online video broadcasts are through the NFHS Network app or website.

Elections were completed recently to fill positions on the Michigan High School Athletic Association’s legislative body, its Representative Council, with six members receiving re-election, another rejoining the Council after previously serving and two being selected for the first time – one of those two as part of a special election.

The 2022 Skyline Central Conference Volleyball Awards were released Wednesday before the second round of the MHSAA District Tournament. Numerous local players were recognized for their accomplishments, including Superior Central winning the varsity division of the conference and Munising winning the team sportsmanship award. 14U hockey hits the ice

The 14U State Savings Bank Hockey team, made of skaters from Newberry, Manistique, and Munising, wasted no time getting back on the ice and getting their season going. As soon as many of the team members’ fall sports seasons wrapped up, the team got together and jumped right into game action.
