On Tuesday, April 18th, Superior Central School held their kickoff meeting to revitalize the PTO. Throughout COVID the PTO struggled to gain traction, so a group of parents came together to give it a fresh start. The group intended to use the meeting to share the goals and mission of the PTO in order to recruit new members but the parents that showed up were ready to get to work and planning began. Many ideas were shared and the first few were chosen and put into action to get the PTO off the ground again.
The revitalized mission of the PTO was shared with the group: lift our teachers, serve our children, empower our parents, strengthen our families, and support our community. The PTO plans on carrying out this mission by strengthening the school-home connection, showing more teacher and staff appreciation, fundraising, and getting the community more involved with the school.
The PTO has new officers, Sally Richard as President, Tina Pasanen as Vice-President, Sammy DuVall as Secretary, and Jennine Mallory as Treasurer.
“We were really happy with the turnout for our first meeting. It’s exciting to see the number of parents that want to be involved with the school. There’s room for more too. Anyone interested in helping out should reach out. Whether they have time to attend meetings or just want to be in the know to assist when they have a free moment, all are welcome,” Richard said.
Meetings will take place the first Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m. in the Superior Central School Library. There will be a summer break for meetings with more to come in August. The next meeting is scheduled for May 1. There are a number of ways to be involved depending on the amount of time the individual has to commit to the group. All community members are welcome to attend meetings and help share ideas. Any interest or questions can be directed to srichard@superiorcentralschools. org.
