Alger County will head to the polls next Tuesday, May 2, 2023 to vote on one or two millages, depending on your voting district. Polls are open from 7 a.m.-8 p.m. at your township’s precinct.
The Munising Public Schools Sinking Fund Millage will be on the ballot for those who reside within the MPS district, which includes City and Township of Munising and Grand Island Township, parts of Au Train and Burt Townships. This is how the millage will look on the ballot: Shall the limitation on the amount of taxes which may be assessed against all property in Munising Public Schools, Alger and Schoolcraft Counties, Michigan, be increased by and the board of education be authorized to levy not to exceed 1.9 mills ($1.90 on each $1,000 of taxable valuation) for a period of 10 years, 2023 to 2032, inclusive, to create a sinking fund for the construction or repair of school buildings, for school security improvements, for the acquisition or upgrading of technology and all other purposes authorized by law; the estimate of the revenue the school district will collect if the millage is approved and levied in 2023 is approximately $401,605?
The Marquette Alger RESA, the intermediate school district for both counties, has proposed a new special education millage. This impacts all taxable properties in both Marquette and Alger Counties.
