I would venture to guess, with high confidence, that we all had the same feelings when the weather went from a week of nearly 80 degrees to the low 30’s with snow flurries. It was a challenging mental roadblock for me to get over.
I love winter and all the activities that go along with it, but when it’s over, I’m never sad. The changing of the seasons is something I enjoy, if that change doesn’t take too long. I have been using the weather as my excuse for not running, and I decided this morning it was time to quit waiting for nice weather and get back at it. I don’t consider myself a hardcore runner, just your average 40-year-old guy trying to do something other than sit at a desk.
About halfway into my run I began thinking about choices. All of us have choices. We can choose to do or not to do something based on how we feel, what we think others may think of us, what limits we may put on ourselves, and a host of other reasons. For me, I was waiting for nicer weather to run, but by waiting I miss out on the run that could have been done today!
Joshua was leading the Israelites when he so famously said, “But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorities, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord” (Joshua 24:15).
The same motto is true for us today. We all must choose to follow Jesus. The warning comes to consider what is at stake for not following Jesus. The gift that God wants us all to have is eternal life. This gift is received through accepting Jesus as the only Savior and then living our lives in full obedience to God.
It’s a choice. If you wait for what you think might be the right time you run the risk of missing out on the incredible blessings God has for us. In other words, there’s no time like the present to commit your life to Jesus. If you have done that then remember each day, it is our choice to live for Him!
