Munising Public Schools is reminding students, staff and visitors that local ordinances prohibit outdoor recreational vehicles (ORVs) from legally reaching school grounds.
The ordinance in question is 2015-1, which allows ORVs and snowmobiles to leave a private resident and go straight to an approved trail. The Munising Middle/ High School is not adjacent to an ORV trail.
“Operation of snowmobiles or ORV’s in the City of Munising are for the purposes of accessing designated snowmobile/ORV operating areas, from locations in the City, and returning from those places to locations in the City,” the Munising city ordinance on ORVs said.
While the announcement did not reference a coordinating policy set by the Munising Public Schools Board of Education, it did request that these types of vehicles not be used when travelling to school property.
