Bulldogs at Mustangs tonight
The high school football season starts tonight in Mustang Stadium as the Rudyard Bulldogs come to Munising. The Mustangs are 14-4 all time against Rudyard and won all three contests at the eight-man level.
SC football moved to today
The Cedarville-DeTour Islanders will travel to Eben Junction today, Aug. 25, for their football game against the Superior Central Cougars. The game was originally slated for Thursday. Kickoff is at 6 p.m. and will be the season opener for both schools.
U.P. native signs with U of M hockey
Tanner Rowe has signed his letter of intent to play with the University of Michigan Wolverines. The former allstate selection from Calumet makes Rowe a rare U.P. native to play in the maize and blue.
He spent the last two years with the Omaha Lancers in the USHL.
Flag Football registrations due today
Signups have started for youth flag football through Alger Parks and Recreation. The teams are co-ed, with one league for kindergarten-third grade and grades 3-6, depending on how many kids sign up. All games will be played at Browns Addition ballfield.
Deadline is Friday, Aug. 25 at 4 p.m. in the APRD office.
New banners from Booster Club
The Munising Booster Club is looking for businesses to participate in the Mustang Stadium banner program, which puts local businesses on the fence behind the opposing sidelines at the facility. The program goes to offset transportation costs for Munising athletics. Those interested are asked to contact Brenda Walther at 906-202-0206.
Parisian loses UFC bout
Escanaba and Bay College alum Josh Parisian lost his UFC fight on Sat. Aug. 12 to Martin Buday. The fight was the heavyweight feature of the undercard for the Luque vs. dos Anjos fight in Las Vegas.
The first-round tap out moves Parisian’s record to 15-7 and starts the first losing streak of his UFC career.
