The Munising Baptist Bobcats played against the Mackinac Island Lakers in a tough battle on Sept. 14 at the Munising Baptist soccer field in Wetmore. For a long time it seemed to be an equal fight till the draw was settled as the Bobcats took the first goal at the Baptist school’s soccer field on Sep, 14th. Dylan Swift scored the first point in the game but then tied once the Lakers got through the Bobcat’s defenses not long after. Ultimately the Baptist Bobcats lost but not without a fight with a score of Lakers 4-2.
“We were nervous and knew they’d be the number one team to beat,” Baptist Head Coach Hunter MacArthur said.
Throughout the game many players stood out amongst the others. On the Bobcats’ side, Gabe Heyrman led their team both vocally by getting their team to communicate with each other and physically being the lead people driving the ball to the Bobcats goal, alongside with Zeke Meskill.
The Lakers won the fight with many difficulties that may have impacted the game, down their regular goalie and two of their seniors.
“We knew Munising was going to be tough, we made adjustments on our own field in order to prepare because we new this field is more narrow,” said Mackinac Island’s Mary Patay.
MacArthur said the game showed that Munising Baptist is a great team this season.
“I’m proud of how they played today, I do think they could play amongst the top players in the league.’’ Coach MacArthur said.
