Hancock, Corcoran named to inaugural all-U.P. volleyball teams

The inaugural Upper Peninsula Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association All-Upper Peninsula volleyball awards were released on Monday, Nov. 13, with Kingsford’s Maddy Kreider named the first-ever Ms. U.P. Volleyball.

Kreider was the Great Northern Conference Player of the Year with 251 kills, 329 assists, 273 digs and 90 aces. She led the Flivvers to a regional finals appearance with a District 33 championship.

Alger County had two selections to the All U.P. Division 4 teams. Superior Central senior Alice Hancock was named to the first team while Munising junior Bailey Corcoran was selected to the second team.

Similar to the U.P. football and basketball awards, the UPSSA selects a Dream Team of the top players regardless of school size. A first and second team is created from the schools that are in MHSAA Divisions 1-3 and Division 4. This was the first year of the UPSSA Ms. U.P. Volleyball selection and the first year of weekly polls organized by the association.
