The Alger County Committee of the Whole met Jan 8th at 5:00 p.m.. Among the topics discussed was the End of Year Report from Rebecca Burns, a Veteran’s Service Officer who spoke on last year’s assistance to local veterans. She also announced several veterans will be assisting during this summer’s car show to benefit the Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial.
The commission then got down to business and Kathy Reynolds was appointed to the Brownfield Redevelopment Authority.
The 9-1-1 system cost of $37,200.24 was approved.
After a question was raised regarding the recycling contract with GFL, it was explained that this contract is part of a oneyear test plan. At the end of the year, that plan will be reviewed for viability.
Next there was some discussion regarding Charter (Spectrum). This provider has served as a sort of back-up supplier for internet access in case the primary provider has an outage. The board voted to drop Charter’s service as it has not needed to be used in the last year and will save the county $1,600.00 annually.
A repair of an ambulance was approved for new brakes and service.
Appropriations were approved including Mathias Township First Responders, Rock River First Responders, Department of Health and Human Services, and Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team.
Also approved was a new all-terrain vehicle for the Fire Department to enable rescue on snow trails and remote snow-covered areas. Approval was expedited to take advantage of a lower price available this month only.
With no public comments or objections, the meeting was adjourned at 6:00 p.m..
