Friday’s home Northern Lights League boys basketball game turned out to be a good one for Grand Marais. The Polar Bears were hosting Beaver Island, and were able to claim a well-played win, 63-38.
In the first quarter, Gabe Lawrence hit two threes. Ethan Bell knocked one down from deep as well, and he had eight points in the frame; all helping give Grand Marais a 14-2 lead after one.
In the second, Bell hit two threes, Lawrence hit another one from deep as well. Nathan Irvine added five points in the quarter and the Polar Bears lead 32-13 at the half. They also carried a 48-28 advantage entering the fourth.
The Polar Bears had Bell hit five three pointers and finish with 24 points. Lawrence drilled four threes and also finished with 24. Will Paul added eight points, Irvine netted five and chipping in with two was Caitlyn Naffsinger.
Lysander McGinney led Beaver Island with 12 points.
