Superior Central opens season with relay meet at Marquette

There were no team scores or even individual medals, but for Superior Central track head coach Todd Spranger, the relay heavy meet at Marquette on Tuesday, April 16 was a perfect way for his team to open the season.

“That’s why we went there, we could never compete as a team against the much larger schools for points, but it got us on the track, with meet experience for our very young team and we were very pleased with that,” Spranger said. “That was good experience for us heading into our (upcoming) meets.”

In the 4×100 relay, Jack Kasten, Joseph Augustyn, Miller Lemmond and CJ Adams were 13th with a time of 55.17 seconds. In the 4×100 throwers relay, Victor Nelson, Augustyn, Connor Blomgren and Trystyn Davidson finished eighth on a time of 1 minute 3 seconds and the 4×200 relay team of Cody Moore, Lemmond, Eli Penney and Adams had a 15th place on a time of 1:59.

In the 4×400 relay Moore, Carter Korpi, Cole Ozoga and Will Spranger had a 16th place run thanks to their time of 4:21. In the 4×800 it was Korpi, Spranger, Clay Horne and Ozoga teaming up to finish 10th with a time of 11:21.

In an 800 meter sprinters relay, Zander Mullins, Augustyn, Spranger and Jack Karsten were sixth with a time of 1:58. In a 4000 meter distance relay, the Cougars had Ozoga, Horne, Korpi and Evan Simon team up to get a 15:06, good for 13th place.

In the field events, Augustyn was 22nd in the shot put with a throw of 30 feet 9.5 inches, Spranger was 14th in the high jump at 5 feet 2 inches and Miller Lemmond was 15th in the long jump with a bound of 14 feet 1.5 inches.

The Lady Cougars did not attend the event.

Superior Central will be at Rapid River on May 2.
