Superior Central softball dominates Rapid River to continue winning ways

The Superior Central softball team kept its undefeated early season record intact last week. The Lady Cougars were playing down at Rapid River on Tuesday, April 23, where they won the first game 26-11 and also won a weather shortened game two, 5-1.

Alice Hancock was the winner in the opener, and despite her limited experience in the circle, she was able to throw well and strike out four batters. “She pitched a good game, she has never really pitched before but had a few strikeouts and she also had three hits (on offense), scored four runs and had a bunch of RBI,” head coach Rich Swajanen said.

Others with multiple hits in the game were Hope Brunngraber, who had three hits, two walks and five runs and Ruth Johnson who smacked three hits.

Game two only lasted a few innings, before the cold and snow prompted the teams to halt the game. Payton Latvala was the pitcher in this contest.

S-C (8-0 overall) hosted Munising on Wednesday and will stay at home to play Crystal Falls Forest Park on Monday. “Our tough competition is coming up,” Swajanen said. “Bark River-Harris and Norway, and I think Newberry has got a pretty good team this year too. Negaunee JV will be tough too, I don’t care if it is their varsity team or not.”
