They were losses, but the Munising softball team had one of their best offensive showings of the young season on Friday. The Lady Mustangs were playing at Rapid River, where they lost on scores of 15-11 and 17-7.
“We hit the ball well,” head coach Casey Ford said. “We missed a couple of signs and then went on a couple signs where I didn’t call for it and we got thrown out to end two innings. We are coming along nicely, we are hitting the ball and putting it in play, now we have to do the little things correctly to put some wins up on the board.”
Kristin Joyner and Brooklynn Joyner both had one double and two singles to lead the offense. Bailey Tyner also threw six innings in relief.
In game two, a three run homer by Rapid River in the third inning gave them an offensive spark on the Mustangs. The Mustangs did have plenty of offense of their own. K. Joyner got two singles and also reached base on a hit by pitch. Maggie Beauchaine smacked a double and also had a single and Elliot Dolaskie had two hits, one RBI and one run. B. Joyner reached base twice on a hit by pitch. Tyner threw two innings of relief in this contest.
On Tuesday, April 23 Munising lost a pair of games at Bark River-Harris, 15-0 and 17-2.
“Game two Brooklynn threw really well, but we didn’t help her out,” Ford said, adding she struck out five batters in the game. “We are doing well offensively, but we have to limit errors. Against Bark River we just threw it all over the place and gave them extra outs. I felt we could have hung with them better.”
Munising was at Norway on Tuesday, played at Superior Central on Wednesday and will have their home opener on Monday against Stephenson.
