May 23, 2024- MUNISING- Yesterday, a jury returned a verdict of guilty against Lindsey Robbins for the crime of Disturbing the Peace. The charge arose from an incident that occurred on October 6, 2023, in the City of Munising. The defendant was alleged to have trespassed on a Munising Public School’s bus while children were on board. The defendant then began screaming various obscenities at the children. Terry Bower, the bus driver, testified that he was concerned for the children’s safety, which prompted him to put his arm up to block the defendant from proceeding down the bus aisle.
The defendant took the stand in her own defense. On cross-examination, Prosecutor Robert Steinhoff elicited various admissions of guilt from the defendant. Upon request to repeat exactly what she yelled at the children, the defendant shouted the obscenities in open court. The defendant also testified that she had no regret for her actions.
Prosecutor Steinhoff stated after the trial, “The defendant had a constitutional right to hold a jury trial in her defense. Clearly, the jury found her conduct repulsive. Crimes against children, no matter how small, will never be tolerated in the County of Alger. Children, their parents, and the bus drivers all have an expectation of safety when engaged in going to and from school. I want to thank Mr. Bower for his dedication to the safety of our community’s children. But for his actions, this situation may have been much worse.”
Robbins’ sentencing date is not yet set.
