Munising boys golf claims second straight league title

The Munising boys golf team are champions once again. The Mustangs were competing at the Skyline Conference tournament at Terrace Bluff Golf Club in Gladstone on Thursday, May 23, and took first place as a team with a team score of 347.

“It means a lot to this group to win back-to-back,” head coach Bette Immel said. “They have put a lot of time and effort into their games, so to end it this way is extra special, especially for the three seniors.”

Carter Deatsman led the team with a score of 78, good for third place overall. Blake Walther hit an 84 to come in sixth while Cody Lincoln hit a 92 and Jamisen Ake carded a 93.

“It was great to see two of our players receive all conference top ten,” Immel said.

The Lady Mustangs also competed, getting a round of 488. Jolie Ake led the team with a 119 and Carissa Deatsman added a 121. With a 123 was Jailen Hancock, Sabryna Smith shot a 125 and with a 144 was Cadence Schultz.

“These were some of the best scores of the season for the girls, they are continuing to improve their game,” Immel said.

Munising wrapped up its season on Wednesday in the U.P. finals at the George Young Golf Course in Iron River.
