Advice to Young Men Young men, you are the architects of your own fortunes. Rely upon your own strength of body and soul. Take for your star self reliance, faith, honesty, and industry. Inscribe on your banner, “Luck is a fool, pluck is a hero.” Don’t take too much advice, keep at your helm and steer your own ship, and remember that the great art of commanding is to take a fair share of the work. Don’t practice too much humility. Think well of yourself. Strike out.
93 years ago – Munising News – July 17, 1931.
Car Hits Tree; Three Are Hurt Swerving suddenly off the road at Miners Castle Sunday afternoon to avoid striking other cars parked on the picnic grounds at the cliff edge. Paul Johnson, driver, and two companions, Toivo Samanen and Christy Anderson, were more or less severely injured. Toivo Mattson and Helmer Erikson, also occupants of the touring car escaped with minor bruises.

Fire Danger Way Up Again Twenty forest fires burned 8.6 acres of land in the Upper Peninsula this week, upping the season’s totals to 232 fires with 926.5 acres burned, the conservation department has reported.
No blazes were reported in Alger County, but conservation officers and U.S. Forest Service officials urged residents and travelers to be “extremely careful”.
