Munising volleyball sweeps up host Rock Mid-Pen

On Wednesday, September 18, all three sets against Rock Mid-Pen went in favor of Munising. As a result, the Lady Mustangs were able to pick up a rather quick non-conference volleyball win with scores of 25-14, 2515 and 25-21.

“The goal was to dominate the serve versus serve receive game, and I thought the athletes did a great job executing the game plan,” head coach Josh Cole said.

According to the coach, the Mustangs had strong serving throughout the evening, and all 15 players on roster were able to contribute to the victory.

“The starters did a great job starting sets strong, which allowed for some subs throughout the night,” Cole said. “Our team’s attitude toward their fellow players has been a great joy this season. Everyone is happy for their teammates’ successes, and that type of attitude makes great teams.”

Addie Bowerman was a force at the net once again, getting eight kills and one block. Carissa Deatsman ran the setter spot to get 19 assists and she served well too, getting five aces. Elizabeth Wing added six kills.

Cole added that they had solid back row play from Liv Cotey, Kristin Joyner and Tamryn Nolan.

“Hitters and setters get all the glory in volleyball, but those stats and kills do not happen without the defense doing the tough work in the back row each day in practice,” Cole said. “This group of athletes has been a real joy to coach this season, very exciting start to the season.”

Munising made the trip to Rapid River on Tuesday, was at home against North Dickinson on Thursday and will remain at home Tuesday, when Powers North Central comes to play a match.
