The Superior Central girls basketball team went up against Crystal Falls Forest Park in a home game on Dec. 19. The Cougars played well defensively but weren’t able to find enough touch on offense, falling 37-22 as a result.
In the first quarter, Sam Johnson hit a pair of field goals, but that was all SC could manage as it faced a 10-4 hole after one.
The Cougars trailed 20-8 at the half. Johnson netted four more points in the third, and Marissa Strohm hit a shot from the floor, but SC was still behind, 31-18, entering the fourth.
Johnson led the way for the Cougars with 14 points. Strohm contributed four points. Peyton Adams and Stephanie Nordness added two each.
On Dec. 17, Superior Central lost a road game at Newberry, 37-26.
After the first quarter, SC was down just 9-7. They faced deficits of 20-13 at the half and 2818 entering the fourth.
Johnson scored four points in the fourth quarter, and she had 12 in total on the night. Adams scored 10 points, and Addi Frusti added four.
Superior Central (2-2 overall) is competing in the Carney-Nadeau Christmas Tournament today and Saturday. They’ll be in Rapid River on Jan. 3 and will take on visiting Big Bay de Noc on Jan. 7.
