The Grand Marais basketball team has been playing through major growing pains this season.
With a highly youthful roster, the Polar Bears have yet to win a game, but head coach Devin Lawrence is focused on other matters such as developing players and preparing for better seasons ahead.
“[We have] one senior, one 11th grader that hadn’t played in three years and has been plagued with injuries,” Lawrence said. “The rest of the team is composed of sixth to eighth graders. So we are pretty young, but they do work hard and you can see improvements. And they don’t give up, which is a great thing to have at that age.”
Recent scores for the team include a 64-17 loss at Big Bay de Noc on Jan. 27. On Jan. 25, they lost 50-22 at Mackinac Island. On Jan. 24, they lost a closer game with Mackinac Island, 48-43.
Grand Marais was scheduled to host Big Bay de Noc on Tuesday, will play at Beaver Island on Saturday and will take part in the Northern Lights League tournament in Hannahville on Feb. 14.
