The Munising wrestling team had four members make the trip to Charlevoix last Saturday to take part in a Division 4 individual regional tournament.
Of the four who made the trip, two were able to finish in the top four, which advances them to the state finals.
Korbyn Smith took third place in the 144-pound weight class. He lost his first match to Brett Vanacker of Roscommon by getting pinned in the second period.
He bounced back with three straight wins, though. He pinned Pryar LaBonte of Powers North Central early in the second period. In the blood round, he was credited with a win over Toby Pike of Onaway, who withdrew due to injury. In his third-place match, he won on a 16-4 major decision over Abraham Feeney of Glen Lake.
Cayden Wieczorek took fourth place in the 157 class. He opened the tournament with a 13-11 decision over Tanyon Smith of Mio. He lost his semifinal match after getting pinned by Logan Wilks of Charlevoix, but he was able to win his blood-round match, topping Calvin Throop of McBain on an 18-1 tech fall. His day ended with a loss in the third-place match, when he withdrew in the second period because of injury.
John Nord (106) won a match but lost in the blood round. Kalijah Wieczorek (150) also took part in the regional, but he lost his first two matches.
Munising had its team season come to an end on Feb. 12. The Mustangs were in a regional at Charlevoix, where they lost in the semifinals to Powers North Central, 36-21.
The individual state finals are Feb. 28 and March 1 at Ford Field in Detroit.
