Cougars take down Mid Peninsula

The Superior Central girls basketball team entered its season finale last week mired in a seven- game losing streak.

The Cougars were able to break that slump on Feb. 25, when they took down visiting Rock Mid Peninsula, 36-21.

“Last regular-season game; nice to get back in the win column,” SC head coach Skip Rutter said. “Finally, starting to hit our stride a little bit since losing Sammy Johnson [to injury].”

The Cougars got four points each from Addi Frusti and Peyton Adams in the first quarter, and they were up 8-4 after one.

Adams had a solid second quarter, netting seven of the team’s nine points, and they led 17-12 at the half.

Six more points from Frusti in the third helped Superior Central stay ahead with just the fourth to play, 27-22.

Adams hit a key 3-pointer in the fourth to help extend the gap, and she finished with 19 points in the game. Frusti knocked down 14 while Rory Hancock and Marlee Johnson scored two points each.

Superior Central (9-12 overall) took on Big Bay de Noc at home on Wednesday in a Division 4 district semifinal contest.

Munising and Rapid River were competing in the other semifinal, with the championship set for tonight (Friday).
