The Alger County Board of Commissioners on Monday voted 4-1 to appoint Cori-Ann Cearley to the open seat on the County Road Commission.

Commissioners Rick Capogrossa, Dean Seaberg, Mike Nettleton and Kelly Livermore supported Cearley’s appointment, while Commissioner Mickey Rondeau voted in favor of Chatham resident Ronald F. LeJeune.

Cearley is a longtime Munising business owner and community advocate. She serves as executive director of the Munising Visitors Bureau and sits on several local and regional boards, including the Munising Downtown Development Authority, Michigan’s Upper Peninsula Travel & Recreation Association and the Great Waters of Michigan’s Eastern U.P. She is also president of the Munising Booster Club.

In her remarks to commissioners, Cearley pointed to her background in hospitality and logistics and emphasized the need for better coordination between the Road Commission and other public entities.

She owns several Munising- based businesses, including Pictured Rocks Inn & Suites and Rammercy Management.

Cearley has previously raised concerns regarding proposed changes to local snowmobile routes — most notably the potential closure of Trail 422 — and has stressed the importance of winter tourism to the region.
