The Munising Bay Quilt Guild is a vibrant, welcoming group of quilters and crafters who are dedicated to the art of quilting and to making a positive impact in our community.
Open to everyone, our guild is a place where quilters of all skill levels come together to share their passion, learn new techniques and make a difference. Whether you’re a seasoned quilter or a beginner looking to explore the craft, the Munising Bay Quilt Guild offers a place for all to grow and connect.
We meet on the second Thursday of every month at 6 p.m. at the Munising Township Hall in Wetmore. Prior to the general membership meeting, our Board of Directors holds a meeting at 5 p.m., and all are welcome to attend.
Each meeting features hands-on learning opportunities for quilters of all levels, from beginner to advanced, and is a chance to connect with others, share tips and showcase “show and tell” projects.
In addition to our regular meetings, the guild hosts the annual Quilt Camp, scheduled this year from June 16 to 18 at the Munising Baptist Church.
This free event allows participants ages 8 and up to work with a guild mentor to create a project they can take home over three afternoons. Quilt Camp is a wonderful way for people of all ages to discover the joy of quilting, build skills and create something meaningful.
The guild also hosts annual Quilt Retreats at the U.P. Bible Camp in Little Lake. These retreats provide a relaxing and inspiring time for quilters to gather, share and work on their personal projects in a beautiful setting. The retreat offers a chance for members to connect with others, learn new skills and enjoy time dedicated solely to quilting.
While we celebrate the art of quilting, the guild’s primary mission within Alger County is to give back to those in need. We create comfort quilts for individuals experiencing potentially terminal illnesses, fire quilts for families who have lost their homes to fire and military quilts to honor our veterans.
At present, we are focusing our efforts on providing quilts to all of our Alger County Vietnam Veterans, showing our deep appreciation for their service.
Our work wouldn’t be possible without the support of our community and our members. If you’re interested in staying up to date on the guild’s activities, we encourage you to follow us on our Facebook page, Munising Bay Quilt Guild, where we regularly post photos from meetings, share updates on upcoming events and celebrate the projects we’re working on.
We also send out a monthly newsletter to members, offering information on upcoming events, instructions for our next project and photos from previous meetings’ “show and tell.”
Membership is only $12 per year, and we invite anyone who has an interest in quilting, whether as a hobby or a way to give back, to join us.
The Munising Bay Quilt Guild is more than just a group of quilters — it’s a community that stitches together warmth, comfort and care. If you’re looking for a creative and fulfilling way to contribute to the local community, we’d love for you to become a member. Together, we can continue to make a meaningful difference, one quilt at a time.
For more information on joining or to learn about our upcoming events, please feel free to reach out to us via Facebook @ MunisingBayQuiltGuild or attend one of our meetings. We look forward to seeing you there.
