Celebrating Alger’s educators

Students honor the unsung heroes of local schools

This month, The Munising Beacon, in partnership with the Roam Community Foundation, launched a countywide initiative to spotlight the unsung heroes of our schools: the educators who show up every day with heart, grit and an unwavering belief in their students.

The Roam for Good Award was created to honor individuals who make a lasting impact — not just through lessons taught, but through kindness shared, encouragement offered and lives quietly changed. For this special edition, one standout teacher from each Alger County school was recognized — with help from the people who know them best: their students.

Each school held a student vote to nominate the teacher who made the greatest impact this year. From preschool to high school, the ballots reflected stories of joy, transformation, tough love, quiet support and lasting connection.

The result? A powerful group of educators who embody the best of what teaching can be.

Meet this month’s Roam for Good Award honorees — teachers who bring music and movement into the classroom, who lead treasure hunts and doughnut Fridays, who hug through hard days and show up, every day, with a full heart.

This is what it looks like when students rally behind the people who shaped their school year — and their lives.
