Starting immediately and continuing through the summer, the Munising Middle/ High School gym locker rooms will be locked each day 15 minutes after school ends and will remain closed until 7:30 a.m. the following morning. Due to recent vandalism and repeated messes, locker room access will remain restricted even after the school year ends today.

The locker rooms will stay locked throughout the summer, meaning student-athletes participating in summer training will not have access to store gear. Athletes are asked to bring their equipment with them daily and take it home each day.

Students should make sure to take home anything they need by the end of the school day.

Autopsy delays frustrate county and families

Alger County Commissioner Mike Nettleton said months of delays from the Michigan Institute of Forensic Science & Medicine have left families waiting on final death certificates and stalled access to life insurance benefits.

The issue, which has persisted for nearly a year and worsened over the past six months, stems from the provider’s failure to deliver autopsy reports — an issue Nettleton said has also affected Marquette County.

Nettleton said repeated attempts to contact the provider were ignored, prompting a formal demand for records. He is now preparing to file complaints with state licensing authorities in an effort to prevent future disruptions.

Dr. Chelsea Ray, recently appointed as the county’s chief medical examiner, has been working to reconstruct files using police and ambulance reports to help grieving families.

Bohnak to hold session at library
