Munising All-Veterans Memorial renovated

Local veterans groups fundraised to replace the wall due to disrepair and buckling and replace it with a new aluminum fencing. Fundraising efforts provided over $20,000 to the project, which meets the low end of the overall estimated costs, however fundraising is still continuing through the Vietnam Veterans of America for further upkeep and installation costs.

Welcome Ryder James!

Welcome home Ryder James Matthews! Ryder was born on Monday, May 8, 2023 to Travis Matthews and Dannie Hebert of Munising. This is the couple’s first child. Ryder was seven pounds, 12 ounces and 21 inches long at birth. The baby and mother have enjoyed a healthy first week together surrounded by friends and family. Congratulations!

Snowstorm fallout

Communities in Alger County are continuing to clean up after damage from the unusually wet snow storm from Sunday, April 30-Tuesday, May 2. The storm itself saw over 10 inches of precipitation in parts of Alger County ranging from days-long power outages, landslides and flooding.

East Channel Brewing Company revives the regular Science on Tap series with a talk tonight about managing state forests. Michigan Department of Natural Resources scientists and foresters will provide detailed discussion about how the government reviews and maintains various state forests, including those in Alger County. The discussion starts at 6 p.m. in the upstairs area of the microbrewery.
