Damron receives life-saving award

Shalynn Damron was recognized by the City of Munising for actions she took to save another local resident at the Munising City Commission meeting on Wednesday, March 1. “Shalynn put herself in harms way to save another human life, and for these reasons I would like to present her with this Life Saving Award,” Munising City Police Chief John Nelson said.

Records set at Outhouse Classic

The 30th annual Trenary Outhouse Classic entertained hundreds of people with fast times and low-brow humor on Saturday, February 25. There was a record number of teams pushing various outhouses down the snow-covered street in downtown Trenary in front of an even larger crowd, but no one could have expected what happened at the end of the races.

Welcome to the United Methodist Church in Munising and Trenary. We are a community active church with many activities and projects for members to participate in. Each month members of our congregation volunteer to distribute food at the Alger Community Food Pantry located in Munising while some serve as Food Pantry Board Members. We contribute many local and global missions.

Munising Middle/High School Student of the Week

Elizabeth Wing, a sophomore student at Munising Middle/High School, has been chosen as this week's Student of the Week. She is the daughter of Tracy and Bob Wing. Mr. Burtis chose Elizabeth and stated, 'Elizabeth is one of the hardest-working students in the district. She puts total effort into all of the many extracurricular activities she is in along with her schoolwork. Elizabeth is an excellent student and an overall great person.' Elizabeth plays basketball, volleyball, runs cross country and track, has been in dance for 11 yrs, and officiates soccer. Along with her many sporting activities, she is in Key Club, president of her class in Student Council, VP of Youth in Government, President of of the Tribal Youth Council, is in 4-H, yearbook, forensics, and sits on the board of The Youth Advisory Council and The Sex Education Advisory Board. After graduating high school, Elizabeth plans to attend college and pursue a degree in the medical field. Congratulations to Elizabeth and her parents Keep up the great work.

District tickets must be bought online The MHSAA girls district final tonight at Superior Central and the boys district tournament at Big Bay de Noc next week require the purchase of tickets through the MHSAA’s Go Fan ticket system.
