We are please to announce that Mason St. Amour has been chosen as our Student of the Week. He is a 2nd grader and the son of Shaun and Cori St. Amour. Mason is such an empathetic young man. He has one of the biggest and most caring hearts. Mason is constantly volunteering his help to his teachers and classmates. He sets a great example of thoughtfulness and kindness. In his free time, he enjoys hockey, snowmobiling, riding dirt bikes, and working with his dad at Foggy’s. We are so lucky to have Mason in our classroom! Congratulations to Mason and his family.

Trobridge found not guilty

A jury found Justin Rian Trobridge not guilty of one count of felony of assaulting a police officer on Friday, Feb. 3. Originating from an event on May 11, 2019, it was the oldest and one of the most constitutionally difficult cases on the 11th Circuit Court docket.

Region responds to tragedy

After tragedy along U.S. 2 on Friday, Jan. 23, the Upper Peninsula and nearby areas have responded to support the family of Jerry and Tara Weaver. The pair passed away after being involved in a multiple-vehicle crash while travelling from Escanaba to Sault Ste Marie, where the couple met in college.

Art in the Alley looking for new submissions

The Munising Downtown Development Authority is accepting submissions for additional art for our downtown Art in the Alley. Artists are invited to submit works in any medium they wish to display in Munising’s Art in the Alley. Reproductions of the works will be displayed in one-dimension prints of varying sizes throughout the alley. Submissions are only accepted from Alger County residents.

MAHA Districts in Munising The Michigan Amateur Hockey Association (MAHA) will start its 12U District Tournament at Alger Centennial Ice Arena today and run through Sunday. The tournament hosts eight teams in a round-robin format. Munising plays Friday at 2 p.m. vs DAHA, Copper Country on Saturday at 8 a.m. and Tahquamenon Area on Saturday at 3 p.m.. Semifinals and finals will be played Sunday for qualifying teams.

Munising troop wins Boy Scouts’ Klondike Derby

The Hiawathaland District Klondike Derby was held on January 28, 2023, at Camp Hiawatha on Bunting Lake east of Chatham. The day started with about 14 degrees with fresh snow, but no wind made the day very promising. Over one hundred and forty Scouts and Webelos with their adult leaders took part in the annual outdoor fun. The theme of this year’s Derby is, “Gold Rush Days” where the Scouts and Webelos were challenged with events brought back from historic times up in the Yukon. Scouts “visited” the historic Dyea, Skagway, Dawson Creek, Chilkoot Pass, and Back to Dyea.
