Mar. 11 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Bring in the seeds that you have saved and swap with others. With the crazy price of produce in the stores, now is the perfect time to get started with home gardening and saving your seeds for sustainability.

Welcome to the United Methodist Church in Munising and Trenary. We are a community active church with many activities and projects for members to participate in. Each month members of our congregation volunteer to distribute food at the Alger Community Food Pantry located in Munising while some serve as Food Pantry Board Members. We contribute many local and global missions.

A popular fundraising program in Munising is ending after changes at the corporate level. The Family Fare receipt program, allowing various non-profits such as schools, churches, and organizations to collect receipts and receive a donation after reaching a certain sales benchmark, has been canceled.

The Rock River Township board confirmed that they would stand by the planning commission decision to enact a partial ban on short term rentals (STRs) in the township’s most rural zone. The ban in RP 10, a zone created by the township’s zoning ordinance that requires 10 acres per parcel and is not bordering any major county roads or snowmobile trails.

Residents across Michigan are cutting cable at record rates, according to a new report from the Michigan Public Service Commission. The annual report issued on February 1 says that over 151,000 households — or roughly four percent statewide — have cut the cord. Based on population, this would essentially translate to the entirety of the Upper Peninsula canceling cable television in 2022.

Superior Central’s Agriculture and Forestry class has been awarded a $5,000 grant to support a project that will bring more local food into the lunchroom through a LIFT-UP (Locally Integrated Food Teams in the UP) project. After meeting with farmers and food service to better understand their local food system, students designed a project that will provide school-grown food for the school lunch program through innovative projects that utilize their hoop house, indoor growing space, and a partnership with a farm. Superior Central has been growing food at the school since 2012.
