Connecting Community with Local Agriculture

The second annual Meet Your Farmer was held at the Rock River Township Community Library on Saturday, March 30th, from 9 am to 12 pm. Mary Kramer-Rabine and Jennifer Wood organized the event every year in hopes of informing the local community about what is happening right in their township and the surrounding area. Ten farmers participated in Saturday’s event. The morning began with a social - participants enjoyed a table of free snacks and food (most made by the farmers themselves), perused tables of products brought by participating farmers, purchased products ranging from handwoven rugs, homemade breads, fresh greens, duck eggs, ground beef, and chatted with the farmers. From 9:30 am to 11:30 am, farmers took turns presenting information about their farms: where they are located, their history, their farming practices, what they offer the community, followed by questions and answers. Free door prizes were drawn throughout the morning, and the morning ended with a second social. Farms participating this year included: Yooper Country, Cold Springs Farm, Pileated Farms, Case Country Farm, Bahrman Potato Farm, Full Plate, UP Gourmet, and Rock River Farm. Mary and Jennifer plan to continue organizing Meet Your Farmer events in the spring every year. If you would like more information on this event or if you would like to participate next year, feel free to reach out at rrtlibrary@gmail.com.
