Should I use marijuana for pain relief?
Q: I am 55 years old and have suffered from chronic pain since an auto accident about 10 years ago. A relative told me that smoking marijuana or eating products containing tetrahydrocannabinoid (THC) or cannabidiol (CBD) could really help me get around better with a lot less discomfort. However, I’ve been reluctant because of various reports that it can lead to use of more powerful “pain killers” and possible addiction.

Starry Starry Night kicks off holiday season
Starry Starry Night, the annual community event held on Black Friday, was successful on Friday, Nov. 24. With equal parts economic stimulus and cultural heritage, the event brought hundreds of people to Grand Marais to celebrate the holidays.

Time to check trees for hemlock woolly adelgid
The Michigan departments of Natural Resources and Agriculture and Rural Development encourage those who have eastern hemlock trees on their property to take time this winter to inspect the trees for signs of hemlock woolly adelgid. Anyone taking to the woods also can help by looking for signs of this invasive insect while hunting, hiking or enjoying other outdoor activities.

Receipts make Rekindle a season-long event
Thursday night’s Rekindle the Spirit event was full of excitement, but there is plenty more seasonal cheer to be spread through the annual Alger County Chamber of Commerce event. The Rekindle receipt raffle continues the idea of shopping local for the holiday in one of the more successful economic stimulus plans in the Upper Peninsula.
