Defensive effort led the way for the Munising Mustangs girls basketball team, as they shut down the Pickford Panthers 4220 on Monday, Feb. 13 in the Munising Middle/ High School gymnasium. Pickford failed to score a basket from the floor until halfway through the third quarter in the Munising victory.

It was a close game down the stretch, but the Munising Mustangs boys basketball team was able to defeat the Rapid River Rockets on the road 61-54 on Tuesday, Feb. 14.

Superior Central basketball had a varsity boys and girls basketball sweep, defeating the Big Bay de Noc Black Bears twice on Friday, Feb. 3 in Eben Junction. The win increased the boys to a 5-9 record on the year and the girls to 9-4.

A team full of racers, mechanics, fabricators, sponsors and owners with local ties stunned the field at the International 500, with Kolbus Racing taking fourth place. “It was a damn near perfect race,” co-driver Derek Kolbus said.
