Munising School Public Library notes

State Representative Jenn Hill will be at the Munising Library on Sat., July 15 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. for a Meet Your Representative morning. Stop in and participate in the governmental process by meeting your State Rep!

An Art and Craft Supply Swap will take place on Mon., July 17 at 11 a.m. Bring your unused crafty stuff and trade with others. The more who participate the better the selection will be. Everyone has a stash of unused craft supplies so why not bring it down to the library. You can swap your things with other participants to get something new and meet other crafters at the same time. This is not a drop off event. For more information, please call the library at 906-387-2125.

Donuts and Doodles, a 45 minute teen/tween art event with snacks, will take place here at the library on Thurs., July 20 at 11 a.m. Teens and Tweens can stop in, have something sweet, and create a doodle or Zentangle while they are here. No pressure—just “Donuts and Doodles”. Hope to see you there.

We encourage everyone to stop in the library to view entries in our Puzzle Piece Design Contest and vote on your favorite one. Voting continues until Friday, July 28. Children of all ages in our summer reading program have worked hard to create some truly unique puzzle pieces. We are grateful to Mr. Miles and his industrial arts students at Munising Middle High School for making all of the wooden puzzle pieces we are using. After voting ends we plan to put the puzzle together!

NEW BOOK: The Cartographers by Peng Sheperd. An imaginative thriller about a young woman who discovers that a strange map in her deceased father’s belongings holds an incredible, deadly secret–one that will lead her on an extraordinary adventure and to the truth about her family’s dark history. What is the purpose of a map? Nell Young’s whole life and greatest passion is cartography. Her father, Dr. Daniel Young, is a legend in the field and Nell’s personal hero. But she hasn’t seen or spoken to him ever since he cruelly fired her and destroyed her reputation after an argument over an old, cheap gas station highway map. But when Dr. Young is found dead in his office at the New York Public Library, with the very same seemingly worthless map hidden in his desk, Nell can’t resist investigating. To her surprise, she soon discovers that the map is incredibly valuable and exceedingly rare. In fact, she may now have the only copy left in existence… because a mysterious collector has been hunting down and destroying every last one–along with anyone who gets in the way. But why? To answer that question, Nell embarks on a dangerous journey to reveal a dark family secret and discovers the true power that lies in maps.”– Publisher’s description.
