Concert in the Park wraps up season

The popular local concert series “Concert in the Park” has wrapped up for the 2023 season. A total of 11 bands were featured at Bayshore Park throughout the summer.

“We had a really good year. Good weather, good attendance,” said Alger Parks and Recreation Director Sheena Malone.

The concert series is organized annually by Alger Parks and Recreation.

Roughly 3,000 locals and tourists enjoyed the concerts throughout the summer. A couple of colder days during the cooler summer had less of a turnout, but many concerts had over 300 listeners in attendance.

The first and the last concert of the season did have to adapt due to weather, with the final band Drednot playing on Wednesday Aug. 30.

The first band of the season, The Wayouts, had their concert moved to the indoor stage at Gallery Coffee Company.

Alger Parks and Rec will start looking for sponsorships next February and begin booking bands in March. According to Malone, all of the bands are from Munising or less than one hour away.

“We try to keep bands as local as possible,” she said. “We have a list and we’ll add people to it, but most of the bands want to come back the next year.”
