100 Years Ago – The Munising News – Nov. 16, 1923 Mustangs hit the court Basketball practice has been started and the prospects look good for a strong team to represent the Munising high school. Negotiations have been completed for a game with the Negaunee high school to be played at Munising on January 11.

75 Years Ago – The Munising News – Nov. 18, 1948 New Briggs Fashion store opened A new business place went into action in Munising last weekend. The Briggs Fashion Shoppe, formerly located on East Superior Street move to its new location on Elm Avenue and opened its doors Friday.

50 Years Ago – The Munising News – Nov. 14, 1973 Flare up of dog cause problems at Central School Dogs running loose in the city which has been causing problems to citizens in recent months has now begun to become a serious problem at the school playgrounds as well.

Dogs are being seen on the school playground areas in increasing numbers and are becoming a nuisance and a problem. The situation is getting particularly bad at the Central School playground and in the neighborhood around the Central School. Already two youngsters have been bitten by dogs on the Central playground.

25 Years Ago – Grand Marais Gazette – Nov. 19, 1998 Burt Township Supervisor resigns for ministry After a long and prayerful consideration, Burt Township Supervisor Robert Gardner resigned to handle his calling at First Lutheran Church. Gardner cited increased activities related to the ministry as the reason why he stepped down and promised a helpful and open transition to a new supervisor.

10 Years Ago – The Munising News – Nov. 20, 2013 Pflaum named new Superintendent of Pictured Rocks Michael D. Pflaum, currently Superintendent at Keweenaw National Historical Park in Calumet, has been named the new Superintendent of Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore in Munising. He succeeds Jim Northup, who earlier this year was named Superintendent at Shenandoah National Park in Virginia.
