Free Skate for All!

Thanks to a generous donation from Alger County Communities that Care (AC3) anyone who wants to can enjoy ice skating in the months to come.

Alger Centennial Arena had already placed ‘Free Skate’ on their schedule, meaning anyone could skate during those times with no cost for admission. Skate rental was still expected to be paid if you didn’t have your own skates. Now with this donation, even this cost has been removed, making ice skating one of the most economical pastimes in Munising.

Even more important, this time can be used for young skaters thinking about signing up for hockey. Even though the season is half over, you can begin your child on the path to success by taking advantage of these free skate sessions. This is the perfect time to hone skills or even to learn how to skate for the very first time. When hockey registration comes around again, your child will be ready to get out on the ice!

Free Skate times can be found on Wednesdays from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. and on Fridays from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m., though the rink will close if the weather gets bad.

Free skate is for skaters of all levels so don’t be shy. If it’s your first time out on the ice, there’s skate trainers on hand to help keep you steady until you get the hang of things.

Thank you AC3!
