A 38-year-old man from downstate Comstock Park was arrested after crossing the Mackinac Bridge for trafficking a 16-year-old female from Grand Rapids.
According to the Kent County Sheriff Office’s Human Trafficking Task Force, investigation on this case started in October and the teenager was believed to be in the Upper Peninsula.
“Information was broadcast to northern Michigan authorities and an observant staff member for the Mackinac Bridge Authority saw the male driving and a person hiding under a blanket in the back seat,” the sheriff ’s office said.
The Mackinac Bridge Authorities contacted the police as the car travelled across the bridge and was stopped on the other side.
The man was charged with sexually abusive activity, human trafficking, possession of child abusive material and using a computer to commit a crime. His name has been withheld pending arraignment.
