On Monday, Dec. 19 at approximately 9 p.m., a 9-1-1 call was received at the Alger County Sheriff’s Office reporting a snowmobile accident on Trail #7, approximately one mile north of the Buckhorn Road in AuTrain Township. It was determined that the victim was transported from the scene of the accident to her residence on S. Lost Lake Road. Upon arrival, all responding units attempted life-saving measures however, the victim died at the scene of the call.
The investigation concluded that the 50-year-old female was traveling S/B on Trail #7 when she failed to negotiate a curve. The victim exited the trail into a highly wooded area and ultimately struck several trees and was ejected from the snowmobile. The victim’s husband located her and transported her to their residence where he called 911. The victim ultimately died as a result of the injuries sustained. It is unknown at this time any contributing factors of the accident.
It was the first snowmobile-related fatality in Alger County for the 2022-2023 season.
As of Tuesday, Dec. 20, the victim’s name is being withheld at this time pending family notifications and the accident was still under investigation.
Michigan State Police, Alger EMS and the Alger County Sheriff’s Department responded to the incident.
