Internet restored in West Alger Western Alger County struggled with a major internet outage on Monday, Jan. 9, shutting down TDS modems in the area. Multiple businesses were unable to process credit and debit cards, leading to low sales, but the outage ended early Tuesday morning.

MHS indoor walking available The upstairs hallway of the Munising Middle/High School is now available to the public for indoor walking during the winter. Limited to just the upstairs hallway, the area is open Monday-Thursday 5-8 p.m..

Munising at Gwinn rescheduled

The girls basketball game between the Mustangs and Modeltowners has been rescheduled. The original contest before the holiday break was postponed due to illness on the Munising side. The game is now set for Saturday, Feb. 18 in Gwinn. JV starts at 2 with varsity after.

UMIR races canceled again The Upper Michigan Ice Racing Association snowcross races in Gwinn are canceled for the second straight week. The warm conditions prevent safe and sustainable racing conditions on the ice. More than 20 percent of the season has been canceled due to weather to start the season. Competitions are now set for Saturday, Jan. 21 for the season opener before the first night race of the season on Jan. 28.

UP State Fair pre-registration now open Pre-registration forms for steers is now available through the UP State Fair’s website. This is the first time the preregistration will not be sent through the mail, but 2022 exhibitors were sent paperwork through email addressess submitted last year.

Blaker new KBIC president At its organizational meeting Saturday, the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community Tribal Council elected 14-year member Doreen Blaker as its new president. Blaker succeeds Kim Klopstein, who served one year in the position. The council also certified the results of last month’s election, and swore in members Austin Ayres, Edward Edwards, Everett Ekdahl, Jr., and Rodney Loonsfoot, along with re-elected Associate Judge Violet Friisvall Ayres.
