Outhouse Classic this Saturday

The 31st annual Trenary Outhouse Classic will run this Saturday in Downtown Trenary. Registration begins at 11 a.m. before races start at 2 p.m.. The event will host over 1,000 viewers in the small Alger community with fan buses coming from both Marquette and Escanaba.

Fishing derby hits Munising

The 2023 Munising Bay Ice Fishing Derby benefiting Alger County Rescue 21 will take place Saturday, Feb. 25. Trout, salmon and whitefish will be totaled for the winning prize, with payouts to the top six places. A kids derby for those under 12 will also happen at the same time.

Munising city passes audit

The Munising City Commission received good news about the city’s finances at its regular meeting on Feb. 20. The audit presentation by Mike Grentz of Anderson Tackman showed that the city increased revenues and decreased expenditures for the fifth year in a row. Additional bond repayment programs were maximized at a one-toone ratio, receiving high remarks from the auditor.

Moose bingo jackpot breaks $1,000

The Munising Moose Lodge progressive bingo jackpot has eclipsed $1,000 for the second time this year. Players must get a full card in 58 numbers or less to receive the prize. Bingo is played on Mondays at the Munising Moose Lodge

Womens Center seeks new director

The Womens Center, which serves both Marquette and Alger Counties, has begun its search for a new director after former director Beth Casady retired shortly before the holidays. The hiring process includes local and national searches to bring in someone with the right personal, business and communication background to take the shelter into the next phase of the organization.

Bacco wins two ACRC contracts

Construction company Bacco beat out Payne & Dolan for two competitive road improvement projects through the Alger County Road Commission. The contracts for a bituminous paving near Au Train-Forest Lake Road in Au Train Township and an overlay of 1.16 miles on Connors Road in Munising Township total $271,240.
