A popular fundraising program in Munising is ending after changes at the corporate level.
The Family Fare receipt program, allowing various non-profits such as schools, churches, and organizations to collect receipts and receive a donation after reaching a certain sales benchmark, has been canceled. The receipts will be accepted through the end of February.
There is no total amount of how much money has been donated back into the Munising community since the program started in 2016, but multiple recipients have received over $5,000 through the length of the program. While the program was reliable for the non-profits, it was difficult for the store because there was no clear way to know when a group would reach the benchmarks and submit the receipts.
According to Family Fare’s parent company SpartanNash out of downstate Byron Center, the company is changing the way it gives back from its over 140 stores across the Midwest.
“SpartanNash is modernizing the ways we give back to the community. One of our new programs is called Our Family Cares, and it supports local grassroots organizations, youth sports teams and other special causes. Requests for support can be submitted online at: https://www.ourfamilyfoods.com/ our-family-cares/,” said the company through an emailed statement.
Local store management did not give an official comment, yielding to corporate management.
