Drug take back in Grand Marais Sunday
Those looking to safely discard old medications are welcome to stop by the Drug Take Back event at the Burt Township Community Center in Grand Marais on Sunday,April 16 from noon-3 p.m.. Any pills, capsules, patches, lancets or sharps will be accepted, including veterinary medicines. The event is sponsored locally by LMAS, AC3, EUP-ORC and Alger County Sheriff’s Office along with statewide organizations.
Earth Fest next week
A six-day Earth Fest will take place at the Munising School Public Library next week, with multiple events focusing on ecology, environmental sustainability and technological improvements before ending on Earth Day on Saturday, April 22. Manistique Advisor expands to Munising
The owners of the Manistique Advisor, a printed advertising publication, announced that they will be expanding to Munising and eastern Alger County. Named “The Munising Advisor”, the publication will send ads directly to households free of charge, similarly to the former Action Shopper or Munising Trader. According to United States Postal Service regulations and Michigan state laws, the publication is mandated to only publish advertising, meaning neither the Munising nor Manistique Advisor is allowed to publish any news or government notices.
SC fundraiser adds third trivia night
The Superior Central trivia fundraisers will expand to a third night, set on Saturday, May 6 at the Chatham Pub. The events have already raised over $1,000 to offset costs for students and staff to travel and learn about Washington D.C. this summer. Cost is $50 per team of six players and RSVP is required through Susan Korpi or Erin Hancock at SCHS.
Salamanders, horses start Spring
The blue spotted salamanders are on their seasonal migration across Peter White Drive in Marquette’s Presque Isle Park. The salamander migration requires the road around the island to close so the species can travel safely. On Mackinac Island, the horses that direct most of the transportation for locals and tourists alike, are starting to return from winter boarding on the mainland. Both are considered some of the more fun signs of spring in the U.P..
