The Seney National Wildlife Refuge had a groundbreaking ceremony and open house on May 10th, 2023 to celebrate a new visitor center for the area.
“We’re thrilled to invite the public to join us for this exciting event,” said Seney National Wildlife Refuge Manager, Sara Siekierski. “The groundbreaking ceremony and open house provide an excellent opportunity for the community to learn about the Seney National Wildlife Refuge and our ongoing efforts to preserve and protect our natural resources.” The groundbreaking ceremony commemorated the start of construction on the refuge’s new visitor center. When completed, the new visitor center will provide visitors with a modern, interactive experience that highlights the refuge’s natural wonders and wildlife.
During the open house there were presentations at 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. highlighting the ongoing work projects supported through the Great American Outdoor Act. These funds are allowing us to complete much needed work on several refuge structures which have been on a maintenance backlog.
The funding has supported work on four big projects. The presentations will highlight the progress on each of these projects.
• The new combined visitor center and headquarters building
• Marshland Wildlife Drive and Fishing Loop bridge and water control structure repairs
• Show Pool Site rehabilitation and improvements
• Pine Ridge Nature Trail improvement project
