Baptist flower sale continues

The Munising Baptist Church flower sale continues today and tomorrow outside the church in Wetmore. Flowers and plants are used as a fundraiser to offset summer camp fees for congregational teenagers and Bobcat athletics programs.

Discovering Your Roots event Tuesday Alger County Commission on Aging is hosting an introduction to genealogy event on Tuesday, June 6 at the Commission on Aging offices from 10 a.m.noon. The event will provide a basic start and background on learning about tracing family lineage.

DesJardins fundraiser Tuesday

A spaghetti dinner fundraiser will be held at the American Legion Post 131 for Shawna DesJardins on Tuesday, June 6 from 4 p.m.-8 p.m.. The event will help offset medical expenses. A raffle, bake sale and 50-50 drawing will also take place at the event.

NA meeting in Chatham Wednesday

A new Narcotics Anonymous group will start on Wednesday, June 7 at the Michigan State University Extension South Farm conference room. The group is open to all people struggling with addiction, no matter what that substance or drink may be. Only two other more encompassing support groups exist in the Upper Peninsula, and this is the first available in Alger County. Meetings start at 7 p.m..

Feeding America Wednesday The Feeding America mobile food pantry will make two local stops on Wednesday, June 7. It will start at the Alger County Fairgrounds in Chatham from 10 a.m.noon and then head to Eden Lutheran in Munising from noon-2 p.m.. The truck provides fresh fruits and vegetables and other items for families. There is no requirement to show need to receive food and a person can pick up for others.

Wieferich takes over MDOT Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced on Tuesday, May 30 that Brad Wieferich will be the new Michigan Department of Transportation Director. He was already serving in an acting director role and previously served as Chief Operations Officer and other roles in 27 years of service.
