Fur and Feather Swap Saturday There is an opportunity to swap out fur, feathers and other goods at the Holmquist Feed Mill in Trenary on Saturday, June 24. The meet is free to attend and will feature local trappers, along with cottage food makers. The event runs from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. in Trenary.
Pictured Rocks Race Sunday
The 48th Annual Pictured Rocks Road Race will be held Sunday, June 25. The race features a 1/2 marathon and 10k route that travels along a combination of paved roads and two-track trails. The race starts and ends in the heart of Munising at Bayshore Park. Packet pickup will be available 5-7pm Saturday night at Peoples State Bank in Munising.
Chatham pancake breakfast Sunday The Chatham Lions Club will be hosting a pancake breakfast from 8 a.m.-noon on Sunday, June 25 at the Alger County Fairgrounds. Pancakes, sausage, egg bake, breakfast burritos and more will help support the homecoming parade and dance at the county fair, local scholarships and other Lions Club projects. The little league raffle will be drawn at noon as well.
Trenary Lions looking for more holiday volunteers The Trenary Lions Club announced through their Facebook page that additional volunteers are needed for the July 1st celebration, specifically pasty and drink sales from 1-3 p.m. and for childrens games. Slots are available by the hour and can be filled by contacting Lions Club members.
ALTRAN expands weekend hours Due to increased demand, additional drivers are available on Saturday and Sundays for both the daytime and evening shifts, the public transit authority announced on its Facebook page on Wednesday. Pick up and reservation procedures will stay the same, but allow for increased availability during those times.
Wisconsin judge orders Line 5 shutdown U.S. District Judge William Conley ordered the shutdown of Line 5 within a three-year period after ruling that the pipeline illegally trespassed on tribal lands. The company also has to pay the Bad River Band of Lake Superior Chippewa more than $5 million for trespassing and environmental damage from the pipeline. Appeals and stays are expected, but adds another state and another tribe to the list of impacted parties and legal decisions in the controversial oil and gas pipeline.
