Beacon will not go to print July 7

The Munising Beacon has not reached enough subscribers to start an in-print newspaper at this time.

“With rising costs and limited options of print publications in the Upper Midwest, there’s just no common-sense approach with how few subscribers there are,” Munising Beacon’s Brice Burge said.

Nobody will be charged for subscriptions until The Munising Beacon is in print. We will continue looking at all available options to find a long-term solution for local news coverage in Alger County. Any reasonable possibility is on the table, as long as the community is willing to grow with us.

“To make the jump to print, we would have to have similar subscriber numbers to what The Munising News ended with. They had 126 years to build that list and we’ve had two months,” Burge said. “Reaching out to more members of the community is key, stressing that subscriptions will be the only way to feasibly keep a local news source in Alger County.”

If you have already subscribed and want to help get to a print product, please contact our office at 906-207-1899 x1. Those that have successfully signed up are asked to assist friends or family members that may struggle with the online form. Other ways to help support the Beacon in this process will be submitting photos and photo essays, letters to the editor, From The Pulpit columns and/or features. Please email us at bburge@cherryroad.com if you are able to help in this way.

Updates will be made available as they arise.
